Trek in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park

Train and prepare for any of our treks and hiking challenges, a little preparation goes a long way

Meet your trek leader. All our trips are run by full qualified mountain guides

A perfect introduction to the mountains, and a great team experience

Some of our trips require a moderate level of fitness in order to participate, and a small amount of training and preparation goes a long way. On our mountain training days participants get to train in similar conditions to what they will experience on the day. It will also give them the opportunity to test any equipment and meet their leaders to ask questions and get familiar. In our experience people often underestimate the fitness levels needed to participate in mountain-based events, and while we have an exceptionally high success rate on our trips due to the experience of our guides and staff, training and preparation makes the experience more enjoyable, and is a great way to get more out of the event.

Need to know

We recommend our mountain training days as preparation for the following trips:

  • National 3 Peaks Challenge
  • Climb Mount Snowdon
  • Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
  • Kilimanjaro Trek
  • Everest Base Camp Trek

Our mountain training days are a 1 day event, including around 6 hours walking.

It will give participants an opportunity to select and test out their equipment.  This is particularly important with footwear – while participants may have no problems with their boots when walking for several hours on flat terrain, blisters can quickly appear when trekking up and down steep terrain.

Participants will be able to fine-tune their nutrition and hydration strategy.  This is extremely important for endurance events. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss this in more detail with their Group Leader who will be able to advise them on the optimum approach.

Participants will be trekking on steep terrain for between 5-7 hours. This is not really possible to replicate in a gym.

People frequently overestimate their fitness levels.  Mountain training days will give participants (and their leader) the opportunity to objectively assess exactly where they are. By knowing this well in advance, they can then implement a training program that will ensure they are sufficiently prepared for the upcoming challenge.

Hints and tips. We will show participants how to save time and improve efficiency when on the mountains.

Excellent preparation for a team event. Mountain training days are an excellent way of building the team and give participants experience in working alongside their fellow team members.

They are a fantastic day out. Keep in mind the training takes place in one of the most beautiful areas of the British Isles.

We cater for groups of 4 to 50 people.

We aim to give everyone the tools required to complete our challenges, but a basic level of fitness is required.

The event takes place in the Brecon Beacons, a beautiful national park in Wales.

This day will start at Storey Arms Car Park (LD3 8NL). Your Mountain Leader will meet you in front of Storey Arms Outdoor Centre. You will be given a team briefing at 09:30am and the trekking will commence at 10:00am. We’ll communicate full details of the start location (which will include parking) prior to the course start date.

“Just want to say a huge thanks to Nick at Fitways Adventures for a brilliant day on Saturday in the Brecon Beacons. 6.5hrs of hard walking but worth every minute and a great training day to prepare for the big challenge of the 3 Peaks in July!! Just need to get my knee sorted out and then ready to go, Go, GO for it”

“Right from the pick up to the awesome day in the mountains and the debrief afterwards. I had some problem with my boots on the trip but Fitways were awesome. Fully equipped, truly expert, not panicking or making me feel worried. I would not want to be on a mountain with anyone else. Just brilliant.”
